Short Films

DVXUSER.com MonsterFest 2009
In mid-October, we set out to produce a short film for the current DVXuser.com Online Film Festival, themed Monsterfest. The concept was designed by Kholi Hicks and was drafted into a script by Kholi and Geoff Reisner. SINNERGY follows the story of a guilt-stricken detective, Archy (James McCarthy), who is searching the city for a missing teenage girl.

We set out to create a piece that blended noir and horror attributes with a classical approach to the cinematography. We shot with the Panasonic Lumix GH-1 and Lomo Squarefront anamorphic lenses thanks to the Hot Rod PL mount adapter. Check out Hot Rod Cameras.

The black and white short film is currently viewable for a limited time at DVXuser.com. Once the online festival concludes, we'll be modifying the film slightly before sending it off to future festivals.

RHYTHM Production wrapped...
We just finished filming Damien Jackson's latest short film, RHYTHM. Set in the 1980's, it tells the story of a middle-age rocker, Gordon (Jason Tobias), whom is trying to manage his life-long dream while caring for his young nephew, Blade (Gabriel Elisavetsky).

We shot over a two-day period in the Simi Valley region of California with the new Canon 7D and a set of Zeiss lenses. The small camera offered immense creative freedom and allowed us to move quickly and rig up challenging shots with ease.

We had a very small crew on this shoot and a lot of ground to cover; nearly thirty pages in two days. By keeping the equipment load light, we were able to get every scene we needed. We were all significantly impressed by the quality of the 7D and we're excited to share some grabs and footage once it becomes available. We're hoping to have the film finished by the April of 2010.

Ghosts for Heroes Officially Completed
Post-Production has wrapped on GHOSTS FOR HEROES, our drama centering on husband, Jack (Chris Jennings), who is forced to take extreme measures in order to protect his wife, Avery (Chantel Giacalone), whom has become sick. It's been a long wait since we had to focus on other projects prior to getting post-sound taken care of but it was worth it. Matt Parra did a killer job on the music and sound design. We're planning on sending this out to a few of the larger festivals and we'll keep you informed on when and where it screens in the future.

The Things We Carry Production wrapped...
On February 5th, we trekked up into the mountains a few hours North of Los Angeles and spent the day filming THE THINGS WE CARRY. Set in World War II, two American soldiers (Shon Lange & Brenden Hill) navigate through enemy territory in effort to regroup with the rest of their unit after being cut off by a German advance.

The environment was perfect for our shoot. Snow and rain continually came down lending an atmosphere which was well suited for the story. We shot with our HVX/SGpro HD setup rather than RED due to the weather conditions (which we gladly accepted). We only had one day to pull this off due to a tight schedule and we successfully managed to get all the shots we needed in a mere eight hours. We've got a lot of post-production work to complete on TTWC with it's mixture of visual and sound effects.
